When it comes to oily skin, the struggle is real. Everyone is after the “dewy glow”, and if you have oily skin, you certainly have an advantage. Oily skin tends to appear dewier (due to excess sebum and active sebaceous glands) and can be more resistant to wrinkling. However, oily skin can become extreme, leaving you with an embarrassing shine, due to overactive oil production. Oily skin types are more prone to breakouts, inviting inflammation and acne.

Top 3 causes of oily skin

1. Hormones

The number one cause of oily skin? Hormones. Hormone levels fluctuate throughout life for all kinds of reasons: puberty, pregnancy, stress, menstruation, dietary changes and age can influence your hormonal levels. There aren’t specific ‘oily skin hormones’ however hormonal changes will influence sebum production, leading to increased (or decreased) oil in your skin. Oral contraceptives can affect hormones and cause skin breakouts.

2. Genetics

If one (or both) of your parents have oily skin, it’s likely you will, too. Oily skin, as well as other skin conditions, can be passed down through generations, as we can inherit large or dense sebaceous glands from our ancestors. Consult a dermatologist to discuss skin problems and treatment options as well as a skincare routine best suited to your skin and issues. Educating yourself will help achieve optimal skin health and avoid side effects from over-the-counter products.

3. Environment

Relative humidity has an impact on oil production in your skin. During the winter, when relative humidity is low and we often experience dryness from indoor heating, you’ll probably notice a drop in excess oil on the skin surface. Conversely, when the weather is hot and humid, your skin may feel especially hot and oily, and uncomfortable. This can lead to clogged pores that can then cause blackheads and breakouts.

Cleanse and moisturize diligently during the winter. Try a skincare products collection with an oil-free moisturizing lotion option over a cream, if you prefer a lighter formula. A daily moisturizer with SPF is the best option for added protection against the environment. Sunscreen is crucial for every skin type.

3 ways to prevent oily skin

1. Diet

While the link between chocolate and acne has been disproven, it’s true that a poor diet can cause oily skin. Diets rich in refined carbohydrates, sugar and dairy can spike your blood sugar and alter your hormone levels. This causes an increase of oil in your skin, and can even lead to breakouts and blemishes. If you want to control your oily skin, eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Try to avoid dairy, but if you must consume it, choose full fat dairy. Low fat dairy tends to be worse for your skin, especially when it comes to oil levels and acne-prone skin.

2. Cleanse gently

It might seem like an extra-foamy cleanser makes sense to control oily skin, but the opposite is true. Over-washing your skin can dry it out, triggering your body to produce even more oil. It’s actually better to use a gentle cleanser and warm water. Look for products without SLS, and without sulfates in general if you can.

Those with oily t-zone areas (oily nose and chin, dry cheeks and forehead) may want to exfoliate with an over-the-counter treatment to remove dead skin cells in these areas. Use sparingly as excess exfoliating and scrubbing will irritate skin and eventually stimulate more oil production.

3. Use a toner

Toners are a great way to help reduce oil, as long as you select one that is gentle. Try to avoid toners that have a lot of alcohol, because these can dry out your skin too much and cause irritation. Look for gentle toners with Salicylic Acid or Tea Tree Oil.

How to get rid of service oil on facial skin

It takes time to see changes in your skin, even if you implement all of the tips we’ve recommended. If you want to get rid of oil quickly, one of the best solutions is to use blotting papers. These absorb oil naturally without drying out your skin or irritating it and are portable for quick touchups. You can also use mattifying powders or oil-control primers to achieve a matte finish on your skin.

Oily Skin Treatments

Looking for products to control your oily skin long term? Salicylic Acid is an excellent ingredient for oily skin because it is “lipid” friendly. It easily penetrates oil and helps to clean out your pores. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, so it tends to be gentle and non-drying.

You can also introduce Retinoids at night, which can reduce sebum production over time and also push healthy, bright skin to the surface. Just be sure to use it sparingly until your skin adjusts, because Retinoids can cause irritation if they’re overused.

In the first part of our blog our amazing Reny gave a lot of valuable information on skincare. She left us at the essential step between cleansing and taking care of your skin.

Essential intermediate step

The essential intermediate step between cleaning and skincare is a toner/lotion. A toner has a clarifying effect, makes the skin less dull, ensures that the pH value of the skin is balanced, removes dead skin cells and plus attracts more moisture. Long live the toner! A toner is suitable for all skin types, from oily skin to dry skin!

In the video we showcase 2 different products, one is an extra comfort toner and the other is a richer luxurious lotion variant. There are also exfoliating toners, which contain a small scrub that works very well for impurities and problem skin. This ensures that the accumulations and blockages are purified immediately. This leaves a new cleansed skin.

Scrub

An exfoliant or scrub ensures that the circulation of the circulatory system is maintained. This circulation also ensures that new nutrients can come to the surface faster. A scrub is recommended once a week because otherwise you could make your skin hypersensitive.

Serum

Now, the skin is provided with a little hydration due to the toner. For more intense care but are also serums. A serum provides intense hydration, and works in the deeper skin layers. There are different types of serums. There are some for anti-aging, glow, plump, hydration or pigmentation. First ask yourself what are the needs of your own skin?

Masks

If you feel that your skin needs something extra, or you want to give yourself some me-time, there are different masks to give the skin just that little bit extra treatment. You have the sheet masks, cream masks, or clay masks. Sheet masks are especially nice if you just want an extra plump or glow.

Cream masks are ideal for dry skin because they absorb and retain the moisture for a number of days. You can dab off any excess cream from the mask with a dry tissue. Clay masks work extremely well for oily skin and impure skin. Because these clay masks purify the pores, and make them free of accumulation it will keep your sebum in balance.

Day / night care

Then we want to apply a fine day care that is best suited for your skin. For dry skin, a cream with mineral oils is very suitable. A day cream ensures that you stay protected all day and have a barrier against external influences and blue light. Which ensures that you can enjoy your radiant skin for as long as possible!

Which of course also reduces skin aging. Nowadays there are many creams with SPF which offers sun protection. SPF also ensures less pigmentation on the skin. For the night, the richer products are very nice, because they are more intense, and the skin is going to be renewed at night. Oils are also suitable for every skin type for the night.

L’Oréal oil is suitable for hair, face, cuticle, for example! There is ultra-moisturizing day care, and a firming daycare. There is also oil-free day care for oily skin. This ensures that you get less accumulation of sebum. Which works perfectly against the impure skin. If you know your skin type, you can easily filter your products!

5 Skin Types

There are 5 different skin types.

Oily skin, dry skin, combination skin, normal skin or sensitive skin.

Characteristics of the oily skin are: Coarse pores, after cleansing often fatter on the T-zone, impurities.

Characteristics of dry skin are: often scaly, tight, often red, often dull.

Characteristics of the combination skin: Oily T-zone, often dry cheek, open pores on chin and nose.

Normal skin is generally well balanced.

Sensitive skin is easily irritated, quickly reacts to weather conditions or eating behavior.

If you have combination skin or oily skin, Salicylic acids or glycolic acids are very nice in your cleaning products because they are very suitable against impurities and pimples.

If you have sensitive skin and suffer from red skin quickly, products with natural soothing ingredients such as rose oil, almond oil, chamomile or Aloe Vera are very suitable.

Finally, if you can identify your skin and know your skin type, you can filter your skin care products faster and effectively, and eventually choose your primer or foundation products which are water or oil based!

4 different ways to clean your skin.

Goodday loves, this week’s blog is all about skincare. Skincare is the basis, because of skincare your make-up will stay on longer and more beautiful during the day. When you apply make-up, you often start with skincare. But what is the perfect step-by-step plan? And how can you ensure that you choose the most effective products that will suit your skin type? I will talk about it in this blog!

Skincare can really be an investment from time to time.
Having more expensive products does not always mean that they’re better. Every skin has different needs, so if something works well for you, it does not have to work the same for someone else. Up next I’m going to show you the perfect step-by-step plan. Which products you can use best for which skin type? And more on the 5 skin types.

Cleansing – First of all we start with cleansing. Daily cleansing of your skin is essential when it comes to impurities, moisture retention and skin improvement. Cleansing your skin is so important, because a well-cleansed skin absorbs the active ingredients in a serum or day/night cream much better. Without proper cleaning, you will get blemished skin with clogged pores instead of skin improvement.
We sleep on the same pillow every night and we all sweat, thats why we want to have our skin fresh and awake in the morning to start our day again! Also, many people wear makeup, exercise a lot, and are often outside. In the open air there are also many harmful substances and dirt, that’s why cleansing, especially in the evenings, is so important to prevent clogged pores and accumulation of dirt!

If you cleanse, it automatically prevents your skin from ageing. The products that you will apply after cleansing have so much more effect on your skin because they can be directly absorbed by the clean purified skin. There are 4 different ways you can clean your skin.

First, we have the facial cleansing wipes, which are mainly developed for convenience and for travelling. A tip for a longer use of your cleansing wipes: Store them with package opening downwards, so they don’t dry out!

The second option is micellar water. This is very easy to use. You can simply put it on a cotton pad and use this to clean your skin and your make-up. Garnier has different types of micellar water. These also soften the skin without leaving it dry or itchy. A two in one micellar water contains oil which very easily removes waterproof make-up.

The third option is using a cleansing foam. This is the gentlest way of cleaning. Super suitable for sensitive skin, because it is very delicate. It is certainly suitable for oily skin because it doesn’t leave the skin feeling itchy, but rather moisturises. Examples include Caudalie – foaming cleanser or Estée Lauder – Perfectly clean. The latter is a cleansing foam, but can also be used as a mask! So nice!

The fourth and final option to cleanse your skin is through using a cleansing balm. This has a balsamic texture and with this product you immediately achieve a deep pore cleaning. This product also completely removes your waterproof makeup! It is very calming to remove the product with a lukewarm cloth. And really try to remove it well because otherwise it can leave greasy spots during the day. Favourites include Clinique – Take the day off cleansing balm and The Ordinary – Squalane cleanser.

Tips and tricks on creating glassy & bronzed skin for the summer.

Hi loves, today I want to take you on my journey to teach you how you can create a fresh bronzy look for the summer!

First of all, start with 2 gel masks for under the eyes and for the lips. You can apply this on dry and clean skin because the skin absorbs the serum much better.

The patches provide an instant plump and refreshing glow. 5 minutes and you’re ready for makeup!

Because we also want to enjoy our makeup all day long, I apply a moisturizing primer!

One of my personal favorites is the Strobing cream from MAC.

Gives a very nice healthy glow to the skin and perfect for more dry skin because it contains extra hydration.

For the summer, a thin textured foundation is ideal for comfort.You can choose an opaque foundation but with a thin texture. I have used NYX born to glow foundation for this look because it also has a glowy finish. Because we want the sun-kissed skin, I mix it with lancaster sunkissed drops. These are brown droplets that you can mix with your day cream or with your shade of foundation to create a completely naturally warmer look. After this you can use a corrector to balance more blue or purple shades around the eyes. These colours are more peach / light pink. For a little more refreshment and lightening, you can apply the concealer after the corrector in 1 or 2 shades lighter than your foundation shade.

To maintain the natural glowing skin we choose a cream bronzer that we apply on the positive lines. In the video I explain to you which lines the positive lines are and how you can make a lift. Then we apply the liquid highlighter in a C-shape on the highest points of the face where the light normally catches from the sun. For a little freshness, I choose a coloured rose water as a blush.

Then we will set our cream bronzy areas of our face with a powder bronzer. Preferably a matte, to stay as natural as possible. You can do this with a loose brush, because it can also slightly set the cream of the face. That it stays longer for the whole day. For a little more dimension in your look, you can add a blush with a shine on just the cheekbones.

Regarding the brows, try to also be super natural with an extra-thin eyebrow brush to draw some hairstrokes. Then we want to make it waterproof and sweatproof by putting a transparent 24-hour eyebrow gel on top. If you brush them up and shape them in the right form they look super fresh and voluminous!

For the eyes we want to create a little more dimension and depth, but also do this with a matte shade to make it as natural as possible. I also emphasize more outwards because the look becomes more feminine. A skin-colored pencil on the bottom waterline also provides an open fresh look. A black pencil on the top waterline so that your waterproof mascara blends nicely together. For this eye look, only the roots of the lashes is enough. To maintain your curl and definition, apply your mascara only at the roots. Choose one that is primarily a separating and natural mascara. Brown mascara would certainly have been a very nice option too.

Then we choose a lip liner in a soft nude pink color for optically more volume and of course as base for our lip gloss that it stays better in place and does not run out! Charlotte Tilbury’s lip liner color pillowtalk is incredibly soft and suits many different skin tones. After that we put on some gloss of course. Because it is a bronzy look, I opt for a browner warmer undertone lip gloss over the soft pink lip liner.
Then to make sure all the products melt together nicely, we spray as finish a spray that keeps everything in place during the day. This fix + from MAC are available in different types. For this look we use the goldlite, which gives a warm summery glow to your look. And guess what ?! MAC has released a brand new fix + for the summer of 2020: The bronze version! Also super nice for when you have that hot weather, this spray is also ideal for in the refrigerator as a refreshment spray.

The last look in our series by Reny brings us to a very creative look which you can easily do yourself. If you want you can leave it here from the day look to the night look. For the creative people among us you could also expand the second look to the latest look! First of all, we take off the red lipstick with some micellar cleansing water in oil from Garnier. This removes waterproof make-up very quickly! Also great to apply this on 2 cotton pads. Let it soak into your eye makeup. Gently circulate around the eyes and tadaaa it has been largely removed already!

We are going to expand the look beginning with the eyes by applying a bit more of the yellow/ orange colors here! Also, I used a super cool yellow blush from NYX to do this on the sides of the face in a C shape. This look belongs more on the fashion side! Very cool for a shoot or for a fashion show.

You let the eye look overflow to the sides of the face. Which gives an edgy feeling. For the lips I put them completely in the gloss to keep the contrast between eyes and lips balanced.

Expanding the Nude,glowy look to a colorful look.

We are now going to expand from the nude look to a colorful look! Starting with the eyes. I have blurred the eyeshadow a bit more with the blending brush so that the eyeshadow color becomes a bit lighter so that a different color can be added to it. I also chose from the Anastasia eyeshadow Palette the more purple vibes! If you have brown or green eyes then these colors are made for you! Rusty shades and purple shades really pop this eye color! I also added gold pigment on the eyelid, this creates more dimension and playfulness.

The colorful look with red and purple

For this look, I wanted to create more of a va-va-voom feeling by adding a pink highlighter on the highest points of the cheeks. This one is Fenty Beauty and it gives your look a colorful glow boost right away! Love this!

For the lips I used a red matte liquid lipstick because they are super easy to apply. This is from Douglas collection ultimate matte # 7. Also applied this one with a lip brush so you can make your contours of the lip very smooth. Especially beautiful with a fierce color!

I brushed my hair just fine for a bit more glamorous effect!

Tips and tricks on creating your own nude glowy look/ no makeup, makeup look.

Hi lovely people! Welcome to my first beauty message. I would like to take you on a make-up date to create a bit more cheerfulness in this time. I have been working in the beauty industry for more than 4 years with my own company Lookslikereny. Very much looking forward to making beautiful things together with Glampop! For now I will show you how I created the nude, glowy look or the No makeup, makeup look which you can also easily recreate at home with all the tips & tricks, enjoy!

The process of creating the no makeup, makeup look.

You always start by taking good care of your skin. Look at your needs concerning your skin care. I use this day cream from Charlotte Tilbury that has a nice glow & hydration. In combination I apply the eye cream because that way your concealer stays beautiful all day!

You can swatch the perfect colour foundation on the jawline. If it’s blending away when working it out and matches with the color of your neck, you’re good! For the blue around the eyes I used a corrector to neutralize this first. Then I started working with a concealer that may be 1 to 2 shades lighter than your foundation complexion.

Then I start working with cream products. Cream products leave the skin fresh and natural. Bronzer to create more depth, blush to add color and freshness. Highlight to illuminate and give the skin more sparkle. In the corner of the eye it also works against the blue, so you immediately get a fresh eyelook. After this I am using powder products to fix all the cream products so that it stays in place all day. Again bronzer, blush and highlight. My favorite products are MAC blush Pinch me & Benefit hoola bronzer.

For the eyebrows I used Benefit Ka-Brow #2. This is a pomade with inside of it a little brow brush. Perfect to create subtle natural brows but also the sleek fleeky brows! How do you know which color you have to use? You can see that by the color of the roots of your hair.

For eyes I continued with the nude shades of the Jackie Aina Anastasia Beverly Hills palette. I also chose an eyeliner, so you can make your eyes bigger and with a wing even sexier! The eyeliner is the rollerlash from Benefit Cosmetics. With a skin-colored pencil you can color the bottom waterline for a super fresh and open eye look!

On the lips I applied two lipsticks. Super voluminous effect to first apply the matte dark shade of NYX soft spoken to the outside of the lip. Then combine this with the matte liquid lipstick of Anastasia: crush. A more light nude colour that I have applied in the middle of the lips. I applied the lipsticks with a lip brush so you can make super smooth lines and optically give a little more volume to the lip. Now you have mastered the nude, glowy look or No make-up, makeup look.

At GlamPop we want to do things differently and work on events that are out of our comfort zone. We truly believe in working together with up and coming talent as well as beauty professionals who are making waves in their industry. For the start of 2020 we collaborated with Xsara do my hair, professional curly hair stylist and colourist, and curl guru Megan de Freitas to host a color and curl masterclass in Suriname. These two wonderful individuals are taking the curly hair scene by storm.

Romy (Xsara.do.my.hair) is one of the most in-demand color specialists in Amsterdam with a waiting list of
minimum 3 months. As a trendsetter and owner of her own Curly Hair salon, she fits in perfectly with the vision of GlamPop. Next to Romy was Megan de Freitas (@megdefreitas) who is a Curly hair guru and host of curly hair styling workshops.

The masterclass Color & Curl was organised in the lovely country of Suriname and through collaborating with well known brands like Keune and Curly Girl Movement, was a great success. Hairdressers and salon owners participated in this 1-day masterclass to learn new techniques on colouring curly hair by Romy, as well as receiving tips and tricks on styling by Megan. Attendees were given a look & learn session on how new colouring techniques can turn dark curly hair into a lighter and more ashy shade. These shades are very popular in Europe and thanks to Romy and Megan, they are being introduced in Suriname.

After the masterclass the attendees were surprised with exclusive goodie bags by Curly Girl Movement and Keune.

To ensure the health and safety of both customer and Beauty Artists, our beauty Beauty Artists will comply with the following hygiene standards:

Our Beauty Artists will begin the appointment with a 5 minute ‘clinical grade hygiene protocol’. This includes:

– The sanitisation of theirs and the customer’s hands;
– The sanitisation of all tools;
– The sanitisation of all equipment and kit bags using anti-bacterial / viral wipes (Dettol);
– The covering of work surfaces with couch roll.

Upon arrival and exit of the appointment, our Beauty Artists will thoroughly wash their hands;
Our Beauty Artists will only take their professional kit into the location of the appointment, leaving all other personal items in a place designated by the customer;
Upon arrival of the appointment, our Beauty Artists will remove outdoor footwear.
Where available, our Beauty Artists will wear disposable gloves and masks during service;
At the end of a working day, our Beauty Artists will launder all towels;
At the end of a working day, our Beauty Artists will thoroughly wash all tools and brushes.
